AOOS Development Status
Previous years of work: 2005
General Summary
Providing data to AOOS
- Contact: Rob Cermak (907-474-7948; cermak AT sfos.uaf.edu)
- Store time as UTC/GMT (suggested format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.sss)
- Use metric units (native storage at AOOS)
- Large blocks of contributed data will be stored in NODC
style until incorporated into the AOOS database. They will be assigned
an AOOS accession number and made available for download via the
website in its delivered format.
- Web camera image files: any format png, jpg, gif, etc
- File format: sitename_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.fmt
- Please coordinate with Rob on "sitename".
- Sitenames in use: KNOW SHEL ABCam
- fmt = jpg, gif, png, etc....
- Time in UTC/GMT.
- Automatic upload to: ftp.ims.uaf.edu
- Username: ftp
- Password: (emailaddress)
- Directory: /incoming
Goals
- Create more standards revolving around CF2, NcML,
OPeNDAP, THREDDS, OGC and FGDC standards.
- Consider these
standard names
- Continue to enhance interoperability through OPenDAP, SOAP
and OGC type services.

Reverse Chronological Events and History (BLOG)
03/05:
- Link of the day: Encoding
and decoding URL strings. Reduce the madness of passing or coding the right URLs.
03/04:
- Link of the day: SciPy Cookbook
Graphics the open source way.
- A collaborative wiki
hosted by AOOS is now operational. This is the same wiki being deployed by IOOS/Ocean.US.
- New product: GeoTiffs of gridded ice concentration is now available. The source
location for this information is
here. This task is completed using
the magic of python, mapscript(mapserver) and OPeNDAP.
02/14:
- Bad communication at the University led us to unnecessary shutdowns
of the server systems this morning. Shutdowns on the AOOS servers led to
about 1.5 hour data gap and shutdown of the SFOS ftp server led to a multihour
gap of ice radar and some webcam images.
- Working on the time element of mapserver.
- Reorganizing storage of regularly incoming and generated datasets.
Adopting a general directory format of YYYY/MM/DD/HH. Should allow for
easier subsetting for backing up datasets.
- Several meetings have dogged progress of AOOS development. We hope to
regain forward momentum in March 2006 after the AGU meeting.
01/20:
- Setup some arbitrary QA/QC for RWIS AK DOT weather network:
| Parameter | Minimum | Maximum |
| Temperature | -90F | 115F |
| Wind Speed | 0 mph | 145 mph |
| Direction | 0 degrees | 360 degrees |
01/19:
- Added some very rough QC items to scripts to clean up the general
real time graphics for presentation next week.
- SELA2 as reported from the HADS network via SHEF code actually
reports degrees C for temperature and dew point. Unfortunately, the
rest of the HADS network sends in degrees F. This creates a need for
hard code in the shef2nc program. Bummer!
- Updating SELA2 temperatures in the datbase and editing shef2nc
to properly decode the temperatures produces a much cleaner map for
the Prince William Sound area.
01/17:
- IOOS DMAC MET teleconference
01/10:
- CDMP tape modernization should finish up on schedule. 26 more boxes to
head out for processing.
- Link of the day:
NetCDF4
python module
01/06:
- Pulling more tapes for the final run to CDMP. Approximately 20-24
boxes will be sent for processing.
- Formulated more about the AOOS DMAC agenda. Finally got to touch
base with Rob Bochenek.
01/05:
- Fixed up NDBC screen scrape data ingestion problem. Near real time was
actually shutdown since July 2005 and data collected 12 hours ago shut down
on or about late December 31th when changes to the NDBC website were made.
- Testing movies via Darwin Streaming Server:
fulltoportho_6fps_2.mov
rtsp://ak.aoos.org/fulltoportho_6fps_2.mov
01/18:
- IOOS Metadata ET teleconference @ 9:30 am
- URL of the day : Metadata tools
