This webpage takes you through how to use AMIS (The Alaska Marine Information System online data warehouse searching tool.) Please note that the acronyms shown inside of images will not produce tool tips.

Please note - everyone is welcome to preview data* in the data warehouse; if you wish to download raw data you will need a MyAOOS accessmyAOOS account.

The Data Timeline & Exploring the Results

When you have ‘dataset results,’ proceed to Explore the Results. By default the data timeline appears. "" This indicates the periods of time for which the data warehouse has entries for that particular data set. Click “Preview DATA” for a dynamic GIS preview of the data. "" When you are viewing the data results you may turn on data layers.

    • KMZ (Google)
    • Shapefile
    • CSV

Requesting data

Request the data download: you may only request data if you are logged into your MyAOOS account. Choose the time and spatial ranges you are interested in as well as your desired data format! You receive an email when your unique results are ready for download.

Getting your myAOOS accountMyAOOS access

In order to be able to download the datasets you find, you'll need to set up a myAOOS account to download the datasets in a variety of industry standard formats. AOOS will email you the results of your request. Use the data on your desktop machine with whichever tools work best for you.

Troubleshooting: tips & tricks

  • When using the time range search: fill the month, day, year and seconds
    • you can enter a single '0' for each second field and it will update accordingly
  • Large datasets may take time to load: the 'done' statement in your browser may not reflect the data still loading
  • If you are having difficulty seeing the 'bounding box' in the preview map image area you can go back to the "Set up SEARCH" and turn off select data sets that match your search and return to the "Explore RESULTS" arena - this will make the purple bounding display visible when you mouse over the dataset
