How do I choose what tool to use? AOOS has a variety of online tools to get users to their data. If you are unsure of what data you might be looking for (by scientific name or Program) we have predefined views for select topics.

YOUR PAGES & ALASKA MAPSERVER
If you are a casual consumer of data the "Your Pages" or Alaska Mapserver the most helpful.

LATEST DATA
If you like digging into data but want a pictoral view of the data versus the data files in a specific format (NetCDF or KMZ) use the Alaska Mapserver.

ALASKA MARINE INFORMATION SYSTEM
If you are a Researcher, Data Manager or a PI who likes to touch and see the data in a variety of download formats you'll enjoy the complexity and full access to the AOOS datawarehouse that you can only get through AMIS. Please be aware that you may preview datasets without an account, but to download any data you will need to sign up for a myAOOS account.

Alaska Marine Information System

What is the Alaska Marine Information System [AMIS]?
This is the interface to a collection of data sets stored in our data warehouse. You may choose to search through the data sets in a variety of ways. Once you find the data you are most interested in you may request the data set. You will need a myAOOS account in order to download the data you are interested in.

myAOOS

What is myAOOS?
myAOOS is a way to personalize your data viewing capabilities. You have the ability to choose maps and graphs to save and view at any time, without having to go to multiple webpages within the AOOS site. We are developing ways to automate large data requests for our registered users. At present the only way to request large amounts of data is to email us, or use the form on the 'Data Request' section of myAOOS.

Can I set up myAOOS so that only I can see my data?
We are developing your own data entry area where you can put in your data set and then determine who you wish to allow access. Each person to have access will need to have a "myAOOS" account.

What is the Latest Data?
This is the online tool that holds the 'latest data' we have for the region or type of research you are interested in. This is an interface to a library of images. Use the navigation on the left to view existing images in our archive. You may choose from a variety of data products.

Your Pages

What are 'Your Pages?'
These are a collection of views that 'look into' the data warehouse in specific areas. In general the "Your Pages" are very specific web pages that only show a few images or series of data for either a Region or a type of data we have stored in our data warehouse. See the Your Pages area to discover a series of topics that have had pages created to support them.

The Alaska Ocean Observing System is building a network of observation platforms and forecast models. The goal of this network is to provide information products and tools to improve our understanding of Alaska’s ocean ecosystem and allow us to make better decisions about our use of the marine environment.
