Alaska Ocean Observing System Data Management

About AMIS

What is the Alaska Marine Information System [AMIS]?

AMIS is the interface to a collection of data sets stored in the AOOS data warehouse.

AMIS is an online interactive tool that stakeholders use to view information about datasets stored in the AOOS data warehouse.

Goals

  • allow query and discovery of historical projects and related datasets
  • assist discovery, plannikng and coordination with existing and future projects to make optimal use of observation and modeling resournces
  • provide data download of project and data in industry standard formats
  • provide management tools to managers and data managers
  • provide thematic views for stakeholders utilizing AMIS as their central database in a distributed system

Strengths

  • multiple search abilities (search on ...)
  • visual display of dataset contents
    • multidisciplinary: data types include biological, physical, remote sensing
    • visual aspect of tool includes navigation of data, selection of regions and more
  • download data in various industry standard formats
    • GeoTIFF, HDF, KMZ (Google Earth), CSV, Shapefile and NetCDF (Ferret)
  • flexible: allows stakeholders to
    • grant/revoke access to project and data information (ongoing development)
    • set their own level of security/access (self, group, any) on their data

Questions & Answers

You can use AMIS to explore the datasets in the Alaska Ocean Observing Systems data warehouse. One way to do this is to ask yourself a question then search for the answer.

  • What data exists for a particular region? Search "Bering Sea" and "Temperature"

AMIS returns

  • CTD station locations
  • ARGO float locations
  • ship and survey tracks
  • AVHRR and MODIS satellite data availability
  • mooring locations

We invite you to use AMIS

  • browse existing data/projects to plan upcoming projects or download data
  • submit datasets to use our tools on your data {your data, your use}
    • data contact form - to enter the queue
  • submit data and grant access to your data group; use AMIS tools on your data {your use & your group}
  • contact us about datasets you are willing to share {all}
  • get your account today to download and work with existing data
