WHO TO ASK

Ask Janene McMahan first. General questions (or if you aren't already working individually with one of our staff) should go to dm@aoos.org or

(907) 474-5965 -- she'll get you to the right person (it could be her!)

Data Management Team Mission

Acquire, archive and make available marine data having a demonstrated value to the national IOOS program and Alaskan stakeholders.

This mission is in direct support of the Alaska Ocean Observing Systems (AOOS) mission " to improve our ability to rapidly detect changes in marine ecosystems and living resources, and predict future changes and their consequences for the public good."

As the Data Management team we are prepared to create data solutions that work with the AOOS Data Warehouse. Select projects (see Portfolio) are designed to be stand-alone units created for the needs of stakeholders associated with AOOS.

Who we are

Dr Mark Johnson AOOS PIDr. Mark Johnson

AOOS Principal Investigator

(907) 474-6933

"My research interests include physical oceanography of the Arctic Ocean with a focus on its general circulation and variability. My approach is analysis of historical and model data sets and use of observational methods such as moored instruments. My present focus is assessment of the ice volume of the Arctic Ocean, especially thickness along the margins, and how this may be affected by climate change."

Rob CermakRob Cermak

Data Manager

(907) 474-5966

Rob Cermak has been with the Alaska Ocean Observing System working as the data manager since April 2005. Before working for the Alaska Ocean Observing System, he was an Information Systems staff for the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences for approximately three years keeping the school's servers, faculty, staff and student's computers functioning. As the Manager of the Data Warehouse, Rob's work includes ingesting data, developing the database, interfacing with IOOS to determine timelines and priorities and working with Mark Johnson to ensure that AOOS' Data Warehouse is prepared to deliver the services it's stakeholders need.
